I like Paul Rudd and I like Ant Man. So this is good in my opinion. I think he will fit the part.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I feel like I should like this casting since I like Paul Rudd, but I hope this doesn't mean they're going to make a joke out of Ant Man. I know it's going to be tough to sell him as a credible Superhero anyway :P But having it as a comedy wouldn't really fit the mould of the other films in the Avenger-line. But, I'm pretty sure I've seen him in roles where his comedy is understated, so there's a good chance it goes well.

It might go well, but I'm uncertain how receptive the general public will be to a hero such as Ant-man. I think it will go well if the scenes are carried out memorably both in terms of good action and characterization presented by the filmmakers and a good performance by the actors.

It's obvious why the director of the Avengers didn't include Ant-man; it would've seemed weird to people unfamiliar with the Avengers to see a giant fighting aliens without a transformer being around somewhere.

I hate to digress but I really dislike that Black Panther wasn't included in The Avengers. He's a great part of the Avengers with powers that are a lot greater than Black Widow who was just sex appeal and Avengers' version of Green Arrow. The only reason I say this is because the quote "Avengers = Earth's Mightiest Heroes" has been thrown around a lot in the web. (honestly, only the Hulk and Thor meet that description)

It doesn't make much sense for powerless heroes like Widow and Arrow guy to make the cut whereas Panther and Ant-man do not

I'm with Supersaiyan1993. It's shameful that The Black Panther hasn't been used and even more shameful that it doesn't look like it's even on the horizon.

The Black Panther deserves at least a stand-alone movie since he was excluded from The Avengers, and they're not even considering doing that? Does anyone here think that excluding Black Panther, an Avengers superhero with actual powers, from The Avengers and not even giving him his own movie count as racist?

No, it's not racist. Just because it's a black character doesn't mean not giving him a movie is racist. There's a pretty long list of superheroes in the Avengers that don't have their own movies. Obvious the likes of The Hulk and Iron Man and Thor are in there for recognition, even non comic book fans can recognise them. Black Widow was someone they could put in the Iron Man movies to help establish SHIELD's role and Hawkeye is, basically, unimportant enough that they could throw him in The Avengers without having to make a separate movie for him. You can't really just throw Black Panther in there for the lolz.

Also it's a bit presumptuous to say he isn't getting a movie at some point. As of right now, only Captain America: Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers 2 and Ant Man are known to be in production with 3 untitled movies also underway. He could be in one of them. Really, they've only just started expanding to some of their lesser known superheroes now.

Maybe they'll sneak Black Panther into the Fantastic Four movie. Would be awesome if he was in the 3rd Avengers movie.

You make a good point (and admittedly what I said was mainly just for contemplation and perhaps a laugh) but what I was referring to was the exclusion of Black Panther, an established Avengers superhero with superpowers, from the Avengers team

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I think they're just going for the more well known ones first so that it appeals to non comic readers too, I hadn't heard about Black Panther until like last year.

Anyway as for Ant Man...hmmm, I like Paul Rudd as an actor...but he's more of a funny actor as far as I've seen, I'm sure he could pull it off but as said as long as they don't try turn it in to a comedy it might be good.
I don't really care for ant man though but I'll give it a chance.
Hopefully it's not too Disneyfied...

Why the hell would they get Paul Rudd to play what should be a serious role?!

Your racist claims fall down considering Samuel L. Jackson has had a relatively big role as Nick Fury, who I'm pretty sure was always a white character in the comics (not saying he should have been white, just saying that the Marvel films can't be racist if they cast a white character as a black actor). I remember hearing somewhere that they were thinking of doing a Nick Fury stand-alone film? Maybe it was just rumours.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It was mainly a joke: "Oh look, they didn't use a black superhero. That's racist!"

Yeah that was an interesting move. I remember from the Ultimate Alliance games that Nick Fury from the comics was white

Is Jackson not a bit old now?
I still like him as an actor and he's great as Nick but I just don't think he'd fit the action role now.

So what all can Ant Man do? What's going to make this a good movie?

I'm aware that he can shrink and is decently strong plus can communicate with insects.
Seems like the special effects could only be acceptable or terrible, is it going to be Paul standing in front of a green screen all the time?

Maybe it will be good but it just sounds like it's going to be B movie trash, is he a cool enough hero to carry the weight of a stand alone movie and fit in with the Hulk/Iron Man etc? It works in the comics but I'm not so sure Paul is going to fit in with the rest of the actors, most of which are pretty high up A-listers.
